The Zoological Collection of the Philipps University of Marburg was founded in 1818. Following several relocations within the city, the collection has been housed in the Department of Biology on the Lahnberge campus since 1977. As part of our exhibition for the university’s 500th anniversary, we are presenting a rotating monthly selection of objects—or groups of objects—from the entire history of the collection. In doing so, we place particular emphasis on the provenance and acquisition history of the items, while also taking into account the individuals who collected them and the historical circumstances surrounding their acquisition.
