## Description

* * *

The State Nature Conservation Conference organized by the Hessian State Agency for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology focuses on future strategies and measures for nature conservation, as well as the question of responsibility.

The debate surrounding nature conservation in Germany is complex, encompassing various aspects that range from policy to practical implementation. The question of the future direction of nature conservation centers on the strategies and measures required to protect the natural foundations of life and preserve biodiversity—preservation of these natural foundations being a key objective of German policy. Attention is focused on numerous environmental threats, including climate change, drinking water pollution, and the changing nature and loss of biodiversity. In political, scientific, and societal circles, these challenges are often perceived as virtually intractable problems. Contributing factors include conflicting interests, the complexity of ecological systems, and a high degree of uncertainty; this perspective is frequently accompanied by a sense of being overwhelmed. The 2026 State Nature Conservation Conference therefore addresses future strategies and measures, as well as the responsibility that humanity bears for nature conservation.
