During the anniversary year of Philipps-Universität Marburg, the university city is hosting the international EVOLTREE conference, "Roots of Resilience – Adapting Forests in a Changing World." Around 150 scientists from Europe and other parts of the world will gather in Marburg to discuss current research on how forests adapt to climate change.

The EVOLTREE network is a leading European research network in the fields of forest genetics, genomics, evolutionary biology, and ecology. Its goal is to bring these disciplines together to establish a scientific foundation for biodiversity conservation and forest adaptation in the face of global environmental change. The network's activities are coordinated in collaboration with the European Forest Institute (EFI).

The conference's scientific program includes presentations on adaptation genomics, forest biodiversity, adaptive forestry, conservation genomics, the role of plastics in forest ecosystems, and the governance of resilient forests. Poster presentations, field trips, and discussions foster professional exchange among researchers from various disciplines and career stages.

A highlight of the program is an excursion to the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park. Building on the institutional partnership between the National Park and the Marburg Center for Monitoring and Modelling Biodiversity (M3B), the excursion offers insights into one of Central Europe's most significant beech forests, as well as current research and nature conservation projects.
