Celebratory flags 2027
For the 500th anniversary of Philipps-Universität Marburg, newly designed jubilee flags once again adorn the cityscape. The project follows the 2002 banners and brings the university into the public eye as a visible part of the anniversary celebrations.
Visual Diversity & Shared Presence
For the university's 475th anniversary in 2002, flags and banners decorated the cityscape of Marburg.
For the 500th anniversary in 2027, students from the Institute of Fine Arts have once again designed jubilee flags, building on that earlier project. Across several courses, under the supervision of Dipl.-Des. Linda Falk, initial designs were developed and then elaborated into a unified design system for the participating departments and institutions of the university. The flags are individually designed, with the imagery created participatively by those involved. The jubilee flags will be realized in the anniversary year and will gradually be discovered throughout the cityscape. Their presence ensures lasting visibility and reach beyond the anniversary year itself. In addition, the jubilee flags from 2002 and 2027 are being digitally integrated into the Marburg Wissensräume (knowledge spaces) in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Peter Bell of the Institute of Art History. Their juxtaposition documents the cross-generational design development in the context of the university's anniversaries.
Special thanks go to the students, whose work provided important impulses and contributions to the development of the project, as well as to everyone else involved and participating.
The project is funded by the Jubiläumsfonds (Anniversary Fund) of the Philipps University of Marburg and by the Förderkreis Bildende Kunst der Philipps-Universität Marburg e. V. (Friends of Fine Arts association).
